This architectural project involved the design of a professional weaver’s dwelling in Bald Eagle State Park, Howard, PA. The dwelling is where the weaver lives and works with his apprentices. The program was layed out according to layers seen in the surrounding landscape and gradually decreasing towards the lakeside. Parking begins at the highest elevation where the private residential living area is located. The entrance level below holds the receiving space, weaver workroom, and lounge. The lowest level holds display area for woven pieces, a lecture area, outdoor patio, and kitchen and dining rooms looking out over the lake. A central circulation corridor provides ease of access to all levels of the building, with programmatic volumes cantilevering from it. This project heavily involved manipulation of the contours and shaping of land to create a strong architectural proposition of a weaver’s dwelling surrounded by nature.
